“Snow At The Beach”, a 20 x 16 Abstract Oil Palette Knife Painting, created from a very green technique I call “Gleaning the palette” where nearly spent paint from a previous project is used to make more art rather than being pitched into the trash. I never know how these creations will evolve, but they are always interesting and some of my most popular work! This piece was inspired by a rare snowstorm in the Lowcountry in January 2018. It is framed and priced at $2000. Giclee prints are also available in multiple sizes. Contact Rina at [email protected] to purchase the original piece.
“Snow at the Beach”
Painting and Poem by Rina Lucas
One January day
The shores of the Lowcountry
Were graced with a miracle,
Live oaks, marsh grasses, and sand dunes
Who had not witnessed a flake
In many decades
Suddenly covered
With not a mere dusting
But a respectable blanket of snow,
Waves crashed like cymbals
Palm trees applauded
And briny tidal creeks rejoiced
As they mirrored the splendor
Of Charleston’s albeit temporary
New winter wardrobe,
Soon icy arbors
Would be once again
Bathed in warm sunlight,
But for this short while
Time seemed to sleep
Beneath the monochrome,
Yet in the one frozen color
All were reflected
Dancing along and through its prism,
Perhaps the sheer rarity of the moment
Is what makes it all the more precious,
And so it is
For each that passes.
