This piece was inspired by the music I have experienced within the walls of Mt. Zion AME. So much of coming together as a community involves the willingness to learn the sacred songs of others while at the same time having the vulnerability to teach them your own. This painting is alive with the voices of many generations lifted in song at this historic church. I like to think their voices are literally brushed onto the canvas, because as I was creating it, music from Mt. Zion AME was constantly being played in the background. I hope when you see my painting, you will hear their voices too.
